Snapfish is a web-based photo sharing and print service currently owned by
Hewlett-Packard which was launched in April 2000. Snapfish was bought and became
a division of HP in 2005, but was originally a startup, funded by @Ventures, the
affiliated venture capital arm of CMGI, Mayfield Fund and private investors.
Snapfish is based out of San Francisco, California. In 2004, Snapfish opened a
physical retail store in Alexandria, Virginia, but they are not currently
maintaining the retail stores. Instead, Snapfish supports Retail Pickup at
selected locations in Walgreens, Costco, Staples_Inc. and other local photo
finishers, notably Jessops (UK) and Rabbit Photo (Australia).
As of 2007, Snapfish has over 40 million members, and houses over 1 billion
unique digital pictures. Snapfish has been honored by Editors Choice awards
from GoodHousekeeping, PCMagazine, MacWorld, and Laptop Magazine; the 2003
Rising Star Award at the 7th Annual Webby Awards; and the Gold Star Site Award
from Yahoo! Internet Life.
As of June 2008, Snapfish stopped its image hosting service, which means images
stored on Snapfish can no longer be linked to other websites.
